New Mortgage Law Could Cause Big Changes for Seller Financers and Land Sale Contracts
Ft. Wayne title insurance company owner Joseph Garretson seemed the epitome of success: $700,000 home, Cadillac Escalade, and country club membership. Garretson, however, didn't pay off his customer's original loans when he refinanced their mortgages. Instead, he pocketed $3.4 million in loan proceeds. Eventually, the scheme unraveled. In June, he was sentenced to 11 years in prison for his crimes.

Bedbugs: Not Just a Cute Rhyme Anymore
If it seems as if bedbugs are everywhere in the media it is because they are just about everywhere in the United States. The bedbug menace many decades ago was reduced to just being the subject of a cute song kids sang before going to bed thanks to better pesticides and sanitary conditions. However, the prohibition on the use of DDT and the resilient evolution of bedbugs to have thicker shells and improved nerve centers means that they are back, with a vengeance.

New Market Tax Credits Can Help Fill the Financing Gap
An oftentimes overlooked but potentially advantageous source for filling the financing gap of real estate new construction/rehabilitation projects and business capital investment projects is the financing subsidy that can be obtained through new market tax credits ("NMTCs"). Taft has experience utilizing NMTCs in connection with new construction and rehabilitation projects related to hotels, medical office buildings, mixed-use office/residential projects, retail shopping centers, solar energy projects, and industrial park projects.

Reddick was nominated by her commercial real estate peers and chosen as one of 60 of the most important commercial real estate professionals in the Midwest.
