Leasing Space to the Federal Government: The Atypical Tenant According to the most recent Federal Real Property Report, for FY 2008,
the Federal Government leased over 2,830.5 million square feet of
building space from private entities. Although these numbers actually
reflect a decrease in leasing over the past years, unlike in the private
sector, the number of federal employees is growing, which may indicate
that the opportunities to lease property to the Federal Government will
also grow. In addition, it appears that the Government's needs have
evolved not just in terms of quantity but also in terms of specific
"green" and security requirements.
